Caffeine may help combat obesity

29th June 2017
Experts from China have concluded that caffeine, commonly found in coffee, has the potential to suppress appetite, increase energy expenditure and reduce body-weight – and are considering whether it could be provided in pill-format to help fight obesity.

The average cup of instant coffee contains 100mg of caffeine, and its effects are caused by the release of oxytocin, a hormone which affects both appetite and metabolism. With one in four UK adults classed as obese, the experts hope the study could pave the way to eventually combating this figure.

Whilst the initial findings were based on a study of mice, the researchers will need to consider how to provide a dosage that is suitable for humans (with the recommended daily allowance being 400mg).

Whether you like a caffeine-fix or prefer your drinks decaf, here at Drinx4u we stock both choices from several of the UK’s leading brands – visit our incup coffees and bagged coffees to see what we have available.
