Origins of milk in tea
2nd September 2017
A recent article has helped shed light on some of the reasons why adding milk to tea became so popular in Britain.Apparently, the practice dates to the 18th century, when people would first pour a little milk into their cups before adding tea. This was done to stop the mugs cracking, which were apparently not sturdy enough to handle the heat of boiling water. Other reasons include stopping china staining and to improve the taste of cheap tea!
Thankfully times have moved on since then, and you can order any of our popular incup teas without worrying about mugs shattering!
